Dan Rouse is a welsh speaking ornithologist, online presenter and wildlife expert from South Wales.
Dan’s passion and interest in birds and wildlife started at a young age. She went on to compete in one of the toughest bird race competitions in the world – the 24 hour gruelling bird race in the Israeli Negev desert. Dan was extremely successful in the challenge finishing in 3rd place, raising funds for vulture conservation.
Dan regularly contributes to S4C’s online platform Hansh as a nature correspondent, producing monthly content about wildlife. Dan has also been an expert for S4C’s Heno, Prynhawn Da and Iolo Williams, as well as recently contributing to ITV’s Coast & Country. She was also named one of the influential young people, where she fronted the RSPB State of Nature 2019 report for Channel 4. Dan is also regularly invited to speak on national and local radio as an expert speaker, including BBC Radio Cymru, BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio 4.
Dan is also a much sought after public speaker at wildlife and science events. Dan’s best selling talk is her ‘Brilliant & Bizarre Birds’ having been invited to talk at events all around the country such as Merthyr Science Festival and Swansea Science Festival, where both shows were sold out. She has also been a guest speaker for British Birdfair, Margam Country Park, and is regularly asked to talk to many gardening & horticulture clubs and ornithology and naturalists clubs. Dan can provide tailored talks to suit any audience, from families with young children, to academics.
Dan also writes regularly contributing for online and printed magazines. This includes: The Coastal Life, Opticron, Bay Magazine Swansea, Birdwatch Magazine and Thompson & Morgan Gardening. However in 2020, Dan has her very first book being published, ‘How to attract birds to your garden’, with DK Publishing. This will be published in 5 different countries and translated into both French and German.
Outside of wildlife, Dan has a huge passion for martial arts. Dan has competed at World Championship level, winning numerous medals and titles.
